“Did not leave even Mahadev”: PM Modi slams Congress after Baghel’s name linked to betting app

BJP took a dig at Congress as the party was accused of using “illegal money” to finance its campaign for the upcoming state assembly polls, following the mention of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in an investigation connected to the Mahadev betting app. ‘Mahadev’, one of Lord Shiva’s names, hasn’t even been spared, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Congress party’s Chhattisgarh government is leaving no opportunity to loot you. They did not leave even the name of Mahadev,” PM Modi said addressing a rally at Durg.

The Enforcement Directorate, an investigative agency, became aware of Bhupesh Baghel when one of the couriers who was apprehended with ₹ 5 crore claimed he was meant to give the money to a politician by the name of Baghel. Additionally, he claimed that the Mahadev betting app’s promoters had already given Mr. Baghel ₹ 508 crore.

PM Modi said that BJP will take action against all the leaders once its forms government in the state. “Action will indeed be taken against those who looted Chhattisgarh. Account for every penny will be taken from them. I assure you once again, after the BJP government is formed in the state, such scams will be strictly investigated and those who looted you will be sent to jail,” he said.

According to the investigating agency, the investigation is ongoing and the claims have not yet been independently confirmed.

However, Mr. Baghel has denied the accusations made against him and stated that the ED is indulging in a “malicious attempt” to damage his reputation prior to the elections. Additionally, he charged that after “failing” to challenge the state’s ruling Congress, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah turned to federal investigative agencies for assistance.
