A convergence of academics, policy experts, and students marked the Asian Geography Conference held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The event brought together leading geographers and environmentalists to highlight the role of geography as a dynamic instrument for national progress.
The conference focused on practical applications, linking spatial science with climate action, disaster management, and policy formulation.
Colonel Tahir Mustafa, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard, addressed the youth attendees with a powerful message.
He urged them to recognise their role as agents of change and emphasised that national development is a shared responsibility.
“I appeal to the youth to contribute towards national development in individual capacity,” he said, portraying patriotism as an active, participatory effort.
Colonel Mustafa highlighted how geography equips students to serve during crises.
He encouraged them to “use geography as a tool for serving during national calamity, disaster, policy-making development.”
He said geographers are not only academics. They act as first-line responders and strategic planners, mapping risks, managing resources, and providing critical spatial intelligence for environmental and urban policies.
Dr Afroz, Chief Guest and member of the National Green Tribunal, reinforced the conference’s practical focus.
He outlined how geographic studies inform legal and regulatory measures in environmental governance.
His insights stressed the discipline’s role in enforcing conservation strategies and achieving sustainable development goals in India.
The 2025 Asian Geography Conference successfully bridged the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.
By combining inspirational guidance from Colonel Mustafa with Dr Afroz’s expert perspective, the event positioned young geographers as indispensable contributors to nation-building.
It concluded with a strong message: today’s mapmakers and spatial analysts are tomorrow’s leaders, guiding India through the challenges of climate change, disaster management, and sustainable development.
