Justice Vikram Nath Hails PM Modi’s Vision For Accessible & Technology-Driven Justice At NALSA Conference

Justice Vikram Nath serves as a Judge of the Supreme Court and Chairperson of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for an efficient, inclusive, and technology-driven justice system.

He delivered the Vote of Thanks at the inaugural session of the two-day National Conference on “Strengthening Legal Aid Delivery Mechanisms.”

NALSA organised the conference at the Supreme Court of India.

Justice Vikram Nath said the Prime Minister’s presence and address reflected the government’s unwavering commitment.

He added that the government aims to ensure “Ease of Justice” for every citizen.

“Your words have given renewed direction and energy to our collective endeavour to make access to justice efficient, inclusive, and technology-driven,” he stated, drawing applause from the audience.

He stressed that the legal services movement must continue to evolve with changing societal needs and technological advancements.

Justice Nath said the justice system must deliver outcomes that are accessible, affordable, and understandable to every citizen.

He acknowledged the contribution of legal aid volunteers and described them as the “backbone of the system.”

He said they work tirelessly to bring justice to those who might otherwise remain unheard.

Justice Nath also recognised the efforts of panel lawyers, judicial officers, and NALSA staff in strengthening the institutional framework of legal services across the country.

Justice Nath thanked Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal for his consistent support.

He appreciated the Minister’s role in expanding NALSA’s initiatives under the Digital India vision.

He noted that technology should be used not merely as an administrative tool but as a means to empower citizens, simplify procedures, and eliminate delays.

Quoting Helen Keller, he said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

He reaffirmed the joint commitment of the legislature, executive, and judiciary to build a system that delivers justice to every doorstep.

The conference will continue discussions on key themes, including the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS). It will also focus on capacity building for legal professionals.

It will also focus on strengthening Permanent Lok Adalats and improving the financial management of legal aid institutions.
