Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a BJP member of parliament from Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh and the head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has been accused of sexual harassment by female wrestlers.
The MP opted to read out a poem referring to himself as a wronged man at an event commemorating the start of BJP’s massive outreach campaign in Gonda for the Lok Sabha elections. His speech was filled with Urdu shayari and couplets from the Ramayana but made no mention of the controversy he is involved in.
The BJP MP started his speech with “Jai Shree Ram” as his opening line, he urged BJP supporters to work for the next Lok Sabha Elections, praising them for BJP’s success in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh referred to building of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as one of the biggest accomplishments of BJP’s government.
WFI Chief also said that he will contest 2024 elections form Kaiserganj. He further added, “In 1962, China attacked us and even today, 33,000 square kms of our land is under the possession of China, this too happened under Congress time. Pakistan resorted to guerilla warfare and even today, 78,000 square kilometres of our land is under their occupation. This happened when Pandit Nehru was the PM.” He further claimed, “In 1971, when 92,000 Pakistani soldiers were taken as prisoners by our army, we had a chance that time, if it was a strong Bharat, Modi-wala Bharat, the issue of Pakistan occupied territory would have been resolved before returning the soldiers just like that.”
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has denied all charges of sexual harassment. On April 28, two First Information Reports (FIR) were filed in Delhi against him in response to complaints from seven wrestlers, one of whom was a ‘minor’. Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, one of the FIRs was filed.
The father of a minor changed his statement in court regarding the sexual harassment claim he made against Brij Bhushan. Most of the BJP’s party members are saying that the MP is being framed.
