Shefali Jariwala, the actor-model who gained instant recognition with the early 2000s music video Kaanta Laga, has passed away at the age of 42.

She was reportedly brought dead to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, on Friday, after suffering what appears to be a cardiac arrest.

Her husband, television actor Parag Tyagi, and three others accompanied her to the hospital.

Despite their efforts, the doctors could not revive her.

The tragic news was first reported by journalist Vickey Lalwani via social media, triggering an outpouring of grief among fans and fellow artists.

Hospital confirms death, post-mortem ordered

According to Lalwani’s report, Shefali had already died before her arrival at the hospital.

The hospital reception staff confirmed her death, stating that she had ‘expired before she was brought in’.

When asked for further details, the hospital directed inquiries to Dr Vijay Lulla, a cardiologist, who declined to provide specific information, citing patient confidentiality.

Dr Sushant from Bellevue Hospital later confirmed Shefali’s death and stated that they were sending her body to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Parag Tyagi, her husband, has yet to release an official statement or speak to the media regarding her passing.

Paparazzi spotted him leaving the hospital premises shortly after the incident.

Originally aspiring to become a computer engineer, Shefali Jariwala became a household name at the age of 20 after starring in Kaanta Laga, a remix of the iconic 1972 Bollywood song from the film Samadhi.

The video’s immense popularity earned her the moniker ‘Kaanta Laga girl’, a title she carried throughout her career.

Following her breakout appearance, Shefali featured in several other music videos and acted in a few Bollywood projects.

She continued to remain in the public eye over the years, most notably when she participated in Bigg Boss 13, hosted by Salman Khan, in 2020.

Her presence on the show reintroduced her to a new generation of audiences and reaffirmed her popularity.
