Alia Bhatt graced the screening of ‘Umrao Jaan’ in a pink saree effortlessly re-creating Rekha’s iconic look from Silsila (1981).

In one frame, Alia Bhatt posed with Rekha, who leaned on her warmly to get clicked.
The two were smiling as they posed for the camera. Subsequent images showed Alia posing for pictures ahead of the event.
The actress captioned the post: “An ode to a living legend…there never was, is or will ever be another like you, ReMaa.”
Rekha’s Umrao Jaan’s Revival
Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali announced the re-release of the classic film on June 2nd.
Moreover, the film has been restored in 4K resolution. It will be on the big screen from June 27.
Meanwhile, Muzaffar Ali unveiled a limited-edition coffee table book showcasing a rare behind-the-scenes look into the making of ‘Umrao Jaan’.
For the unversed, the book is a collection of never-before-seen photographs, costume sketches, calligraphy, poetry, and personal anecdotes from the set. It reflects deeply on the film’s artistic vision.
“I had actors who brought a lot of heft to their characters, and then there was Rekha, who lived Umrao Jaan and truly immortalised it. I am thrilled that the film is back on the big screen for a whole new generation to discover a time and culture that’s very much a part of our being,” Ali added.
About ‘Umrao Jaan’
The movie was released in 1981, which is an Indian period musical drama. It was based on an Urdu novel ‘Umrao Jaan Ada’, written by Mirza Hadi Ruswa.
The film tells the story of a Lucknow courtesan and poet who rises to fame. ‘Umrao Jaan’ is considered one of the best Indian all-time classic films.
Umrao Jaan has won many awards in different categories.
