Life of 4 people changed due to a woman’s organ donation commitment and the medical skill of a group of Delhi doctors. A painter who lost both hands in a tragic accident is set to pick up his brush once more.
The 45-year-old will be discharged from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital tomorrow. His case is the first successful double hand transplant in Delhi. He lost both his hands in a tragic train accident in 2020. He came from a poor family and was at a loss for what to do.
However, miracles do occur. The 45-year-old was saved by the hands of Meena Mehta, the former head of administration of a well-known school in South Delhi who was pronounced brain dead. During her lifetime, Ms. Mehta had promised to donate her organs.
Three other people’s life have been changed by her kidney, liver, and corneas.
However, without the perseverance of the medical team that completed the tough task, this would not have been feasible. The surgery, which lasted over 12 hours, involved joining the recipient’s arms to the donor’s hands in every way possible, including muscles, tendons, and arteries. Dedication paid off, and at the end when the group of medical professionals posed for a photo and the painter who received his hands back gave a double thumbs up.
