PM Modi Addresses Devotees In Udupi; Highlights Krishna’s Teachings In Governance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Udupi’s Sri Krishna Math in Karnataka, where he participated in the mass ‘Laksha Kantha Gita’ chanting and addressed a large gathering of devotees.

He emphasised that Lord Krishna’s teachings directly influence the Central government’s policies, particularly the principles of dharma, social welfare, and the pursuit of truth.

Highlighting the Bhagavad Gita’s relevance in contemporary governance, PM Modi stated that Lord Krishna delivered his teachings on the battlefield and taught that defeating oppressors is essential to establishing peace.

He noted that this philosophy forms the foundation of India’s national security approach.

“To establish peace and truth, it is necessary to end ‘atyachaaris’. This is the essence of our national security policy,” he said, adding that India follows the principle of ‘Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah’.

PM Modi also spoke of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, describing it as a comprehensive security plan aimed at creating strong protective systems around key installations, industries, and public infrastructure.

A New India That Responds with Strength

The Prime Minister referenced Operation Sindoor and the government’s swift response to terror incidents, contrasting it with the inaction of previous administrations.

Speaking about the Pahalgam terror attack, in which several pilgrims — including those from Karnataka — lost their lives, he reiterated that today’s India stands firm against threats and protects its citizens without hesitation.

PM Modi said that the Gita encourages individuals to work for the welfare of society, a principle reflected in policies such as Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and schemes like Ayushman Bharat and PM Awas Yojana.

He highlighted that Krishna also emphasised women’s empowerment, which inspired reforms such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, providing 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Expressing his emotions during the visit, PM Modi said Udupi holds a unique spiritual significance due to its connection with Gujarat, where he was born.

He recalled the belief that Mata Rukmini first worshipped the Sri Krishna idol in Gujarat before Jagadguru Madhvacharya installed it in Udupi.

He also lauded Udupi’s legacy of good governance. The region elected Jan Sangh leader VS Acharya to the local corporation in 1968, laying the foundation for early models of Swachhata and efficient administration.

PM Modi said his recent visits—from Kurukshetra to Udupi—had been spiritually fulfilling. He described the collective recitation of Gita verses by one lakh devotees as a moment that showcased India’s ancient heritage to the world.
