Russia Strikes Kyiv In Pre-Dawn Attack
Russia launched a pre-dawn attack on Ukraine’s capital Tuesday as its air defences worked to stop drones in what has been a relentless wave of daylight and nighttime bombardments targeting Kyiv.
Drone buzzing and loud explosions could be heard as the Ukrainian air defence retaliated against the third aerial attack by Russia on the capital in the previous 24 hours.
The Kyiv Military Administration reports that more than 20 Shahed drones were shot down by air defence forces in the airspace over Kyiv.
Three people were hurt and one person died when a high-rise building in the Holosiiv neighbourhood caught fire. The Kiyv military administration stated that the two upper floors were destroyed and that there might be people under the debris.
There was an evacuation of over 20 people. The military administration said that three automobiles were set on fire in the Pechersky district and that falling debris elsewhere in the capital caused a private residence in the Darnytskyi area to catch fire.
The series of assaults that began on Sunday included an unprecedented daytime attack on Monday that produced white smoke puffs in the bright skies. Russian forces fired 11 ballistic and cruise missiles at Kyiv at about 11:30 a.m., according to Ukraine’s chief of staff, Valerii Zaluzhnyi. All of them were shot down, he said.
According to the Kyiv military administration, debris from the shot down missiles landed during the morning hours in Kyiv’s central and northern districts, falling in the path of oncoming traffic on a municipal road and also igniting a building’s roof. At least one injured civilian has been recorded.
Precision long-range air-launched missile strikes against Ukrainian air bases were reportedly launched by Russia early on Monday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. According to the report, the strikes destroyed command centres, radars, planes, and ammo stores. Nothing about attacking cities or other civilian areas was mentioned.
