Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated from a venue where he was expected to deliver a speech after an explosion-like sound was heard at the location, said a local media.

Reportedly, the prime minister was unharmed in the incident.

According to several media reports, an apparent “smoke bomb” had been thrown but there were no immediate signs of injuries or damage have been reported at the scene.

Amid the incident, a person has been detained at the incident scene in western Japan’s Wakayama where Kishida had been due to give a speech, said the media reports.

However, there was no immediate official confirmation of the incident.

Several footage surfaced on the internet, showing the security and the police detaining the suspect as a crowd scattered at the scene.
