3 Men Sexually Assault Student In Pakistan, Arrested

The victim, who had finished his intermediate examination last Friday, was approached by the suspects whom he knew according to the FIR.

A college student was lured to a riverside by three men who allegedly attempted to sexually assault him. They then recorded the student while he was naked on camera and used the footage to blackmail him in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dawn reported.

An initial complaint was filed at police station Dandai in Bisham Tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa invoking sections 377 (unnatural offence), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or a shorter term), and 506/34 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The victim, who had finished his intermediate examination last Friday, was approached by the suspects whom he knew according to the FIR. The victim reportedly resisted the defendants’ approaches when they were made sexually, Dawn reported. The culprits allegedly tricked the victim into believing they would accompany him to a riverbank.

However, the suspects took a video of the victim without clothes and threatened to reveal the video and hurt him if he reported the event.
According to Muhammad Arif Khan, Station House Officer (SHO) Dandai, the three individuals named in the FIR were taken into custody today, and they are being questioned.

An unsettling pattern has been observed in the data gathered by Sahil, an NGO that works to combat child sexual abuse: most of the offenders are people the victims know, such as neighbours, friends, or even family members.

Startlingly, religious leaders and clerics are the most common offenders in institutional environments as more complaints are made against them other than police officers, teachers, or even members of the immediate family—Dawn reports.

While there is still a dearth of primary data, organisations continue to rely on media stories and police complaints, but a 20-year trend indicates that the percentage of mistreated females in madrassas is somewhat greater than the percentage of boys.
