Shiv Sena (UBT) Lashes Out At Unacademy For Firing Tutor Who Asked Students To Vote For Educated Candidates

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her condemnation of Unacademy’s decision to fire a tutor.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her condemnation of Unacademy’s decision to fire a tutor. The e-learning platform’s decision was impelled by a tutor, identified as Karan Sangwan, urging his students to vote for “educated candidates” during an online lecture. Subsequent to his video circulating on social media and creating controversy, Karan was sacked.

According to Roman Saini, the co-founder of Unacademy, the reason for firing the teacher was because he breached the company’s code of conduct.  As per the policy, teachers are not allowed to share their personal opinions.

In response to their decision, Priyanka Chaturvedi dropped a Tweet on X, earlier known as Twitter, contending that it is not biased to ask people to vote for literate politicians.

She articulated, “How does saying vote for literate politicians a biased opinion? Doesn’t that opinion positively influence young minds? Shame if merely expressing this view gets you to take someone’s job, Unacademy.” While concluding the Tweet, the UBT leader added that the way people perceived his statement was beyond her understanding.

Besides Chaturvedi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal also opposed Unacademy’s decision of sacking the teacher. Questing the e-learning platform’s move, he penned in Hindi, “Is it a crime to appeal to educated people to vote?” Asserting that he respects illiterate people, he explained the importance of having an educated public representative in the era of science and technology.

Post getting fired from Unacademy, Mr Sangwan announced that he will be posting details about the ongoing controversy on his new YouTube handle.
