At least four coaches and the engine of the Sabarmati Superfast Express derailed at Ajmer, Rajasthan, after hitting a goods train, causing minor injuries to a number of passengers.
At approximately 1:04 am in the morning, the Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Superfast Express train, number 12548, and the freight train crashed in the vicinity of the Madar Railway Station.
Railway officials stated that even after applying emergency brakes, the train’s loco pilot was unable to prevent the crash.
Senior Official Of Northwestern Railway said in pre-recorded message on X formerly known as twitter, “Today on March 18 at 01.04 am, train number 12548, Sabarmati-Agra Cantt derailed near the home signal at Madar near Ajmer due to which the engine and four general coaches have derailed. There has been no loss of life in this. Taking immediate action, railway officials have reached the accident site and the accident relief train has reached Madar and track restoration work is being done.”
“A help desk has been set up by the Railways at Ajmer station and helpline number 0145-2429642 has been issued,” he added.
Two carriages of an express train headed for Bhopal also derailed earlier in January in Kota, Rajasthan. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident.
