Rouse Avenue Court has rejected the bail plea filed by former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in the ED and CBI case related to Delhi Liquor Policy. Manish Sisodia had filed the second bail application, before this the lower court had rejected his bail plea.
During the hearing of the case, CBI had opposed the bail application filed by Manish Sisodia. CBI lawyer had said that he should not be granted bail because he has been described as the mastermind in this case by the court. CBI said that if Sisodia gets bail he can influence the witnesses as he is the kingpin of the scam.
CBI had said that we are saying again and again that he is a kingpin. There is a ground for delay in their petition. We have told what is the reason for the delay. The court has also accepted Sisodia as the mastermind. CBI had further said that the entire society is suffering from economic crimes. Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had once said that corruption is cancer for the society.
If granted bail, Sisodia may influence further investigation and witnesses. If bail is granted at this stage then their objective will definitely be fulfilled. The ED said the gravity of the crime was extremely serious as a policy was made which favored some wholesalers.
The only reason for withdrawal of the policy was investigation and the new policy of alcohol is a means of gaining illegal profits. ED had said that the report of the expert committee had said that the share of wholesale business should be given to the government. There was no discussion on this matter and why the wholesale business was given to private companies.
ED had said that a meeting was held with the South Group at Oberoi Hotel, where all the co-accused were present in the meeting. Some of them have now become government witnesses. Manish Sisodia was arrested by CBI on 26 February 2023. Whereas on March 9, 2023, ED had arrested Sisodia in the money laundering case related to the CBI FIR. Sisodia has appealed for bail from the High Court to the Supreme Court but every time his petition has been rejected.
