Being an IAS officer in an Indian society means putting lots of blood, sweat and tears to crack the most prestigious examination and then enjoying a dream life with an unmatchable status. You might have heard N number of stories of bureaucrats having an exemplary luxurious life accessing bungalows, cars, and properties who don’t even sneeze without having a dozen security personnel around. Dr. S. Siddharth is definitely NOT one of them.
An IITian, an alumna of IIM, and the most powerful bureaucrat of Bihar, Dr. Siddharth lives a life whose simplicity is unparalleled in bureaucracy. This officer from the soil of Tamil Nadu walks and roams on the streets of Bihar, buys groceries without any security or helper, and meets with people without any glam-sham.
He says, “Civil service does not only mean serving the nation and its administration but is also the duty of every civil servant to be responsible and sensitive towards the common people.” He reaches out to people without any security to understand the real challenges they face in their daily life with a solution-oriented mindset.
Being in such a prestigious job which is a tough nut to crack Dr. S Siddharth still finds out time to follow what he loves to do. Mind you, he is a professional Wild Life Photographer and shares pictures clicked by him on his Twitter handle. Additionally, he is also a painter and a cartoonist. Well, people who know him personally often end up saying that there is a lot to learn from, he is an inspiration to all the new bureaucrats in the country.

‘The greatest people are the simplest’, this line completely defines the mind-blowing personality of Dr. S Siddharth, whose virtue is simplicity. Being a follower of Gandhian Principles he paid a painting tribute on his birth anniversary which he shared on his Twitter handle and captioned, “A lovely day indeed to remember the Mahatma, I do wonder how much I remember (or use his learnings) in my regular daily life. Dr. S Siddharth is presently Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Bihar. Apart from this he also holds the post of Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department and Additional Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat.
Dr S Siddharth an IAS Officer of 1991 batch is an alumna from IIT Delhi (1987). He has also obtained an MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad (1989). He has earned a double Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University.
