PM Modi warns women of “divisive politics”, calls them single “one big caste”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, taking a jab at opposition parties, warned women on Saturday against “divisive politics” that aim to divide them and asserted that they are a single, cohesive “caste” capable of facing any challenge. “Women ought to stick together. These days, there are those who sow discord among women. “All women belong to a single caste that is so vast that they can overcome any obstacle as a group,” he declared, addressing female Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) beneficiaries.

Later, he issued a warning to women about divisive politics that aim to sow division among them, according to an official statement.

With various welfare programs, the ruling BJP has actively courted female voters. According to some surveys, this has resulted in their voting for the party with greater fervor in a number of state elections.

The prime minister has claimed that the four largest castes—the impoverished, women, youth, and farmers—are those whose advancement will result in developed India. However, Modi’s remarks are perceived as a jab at the Congress and other parties that have been advocating for a caste census.

He said this while speaking with Priyanka Yadav, a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar. She mentioned how her family was able to weather the financial storm after the Covid-19 outbreak thanks to a number of central government welfare programs, including receiving free grain and cash assistance.

He told her that he was happy that “Modi ki Guarantee” vehicles were making their way to every village in the nation and urged her to spread the word about government programs in her community.

He emphasized that for any welfare scheme to be successful, every beneficiary must be reached, adding that in the past, these programs were limited to paperwork and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
