According to the Vice President’s office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday and expressed his deep distress over some MPs “abject theatrics” in the parliament complex.
Vice President’s Secretariat said, “Received a telephone call from the Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi Ji. He expressed great pain over the abject theatrics of some Honourable MPs and that too in the sacred Parliament complex yesterday.”
As per Dhankar, PM said, “He has been at the receiving end of such insults for twenty years and counting but the fact that it could happen to a Constitutional office like the Vice President and that too in Parliament was unfortunate.”
In response, Vice President Dhankar said, “Mr. Prime Minister, the antics of a few won’t prevent me from performing my duty and upholding the principles enshrined in our Constitution. I am committed to those values from the bottom of my heart. None of the insults will make me change my path.”
Tuesday saw the start of a political dispute when Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee mockingly imitated Dhankhar during the opposition’s demonstration against the suspension of the MPs on Parliament stairs. The ruling BJP strongly condemned Banerjee’s actions.
Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, was spotted filming Banerjee’s performance. He leaned forward and seemed to be copying Dhankhar’s gait and gave reference of having a spine.
