Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, declared that it was a “do or die moment” and that the conflict with the Palestinian terror organisation Hamas had entered its “second stage” on Saturday (local time). He added that more ground forces had advanced into Gaza and that the fighters of the group would be routed by land, air, and sea.
Netanyahu declared during a press conference that he had met with the families of those who had lost their lives in the conflict and of those who had been kidnapped by Hamas, calling their kidnapping a “crime against humanity”. He assured them that every effort would be made by his administration to free the hostages.
“My heart was broken. I reiterated to them: At every stage up to now and from now, we will exhaust every possibility to bring our brothers and sisters back,” he said, adding that the expanding ground assault in Gaza “will help us in this mission”, according to The Associated Press.
Netanyahu said that conflict would be “long and difficult” calling the war as “our second war of independence”. He further added that the forces of Israel will fight and not retreat.
“We will fight and not retreat. We will fight on land, at sea and in the air. We will destroy the enemy above ground and below ground. We will fight and we will win,” Netanyahu said, adding that the war was now “the mission of my life”, he added.
“We have eliminated countless terrorists, including arch-terrorists, and we have destroyed many terrorist command posts and infrastructure. We are only just getting started,” the Israeli Prime Minister said.
