Following a complaint, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) sent a notice to the Delhi Police regarding pornographic images of Hindu goddesses. The complainant claimed to have received emails with sample images of Goddesses depicted in obscene ways.
The DCW Chairperson, Swati Maliwal, has asked the Delhi Police to provide an action report, along with a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) and information about the accused who was detained in relation to the case.
The Delhi Police’s efforts to take down and stop the spread of offensive content on the internet have also been questioned by the Commission.
Commenting on the issue, Swati Maliwal said, “The act is extremely disrespectful and has the potential to hurt religious sentiments and create enmity among groups. This is a very serious matter. An FIR must be registered immediately, and the accused should be apprehended.
Additionally, she advocated for the prompt elimination of offensive material from the internet.
