MP Police Lodges FIR Against Priyanka Gandhi-Kamal Nath Over Post Accusing BJP Of Corruption

A case was filed under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and 469 (forgery with intent to defame).

On Saturday, the Indore Police announced that it had filed a police report (FIR) against the “handlers” of the ‘X’ accounts of several senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kamal Nath, the head of the MP Congress, and former union minister Arun Yadav for a post that alleged corruption in Madhya Pradesh BJP government.

The Indore Police Commissioner claimed late on Saturday night that local BJP legal cell convenor Nimesh Pathak had complained that a bogus letter with Gyanendra Awasthi’s name on it had been going around social media. The statement was published on Twitter, now known as X.

According to the letter, the state’s contractors are being required to pay a 50% commission.

According to the press release, a case has been opened at the Sanyogitaganj police station in the city against Awasthi and the “handlers” of the ‘X’ accounts of Vadra, Nath, and Arun Yadav. Pathak’s allegation is also being looked into.

Arun Yadav, Vadra, and Nath’s Twitter “handles” allegedly had a FIR filed against them at the city’s Sanyogitaganj police station earlier in the day, according to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramsanehi Mishra.

On Pathak’s complaint, he claimed, the case was filed under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating) and 469 (forgery with intent to defame).

Pathak claimed that by publishing “misleading” social media posts and charging the BJP government in the state with corruption, the Congress leaders planned to damage the reputation of the state government and his party. Twitter handles authenticity is still being verified by the police said an official.

On Friday, Vadra asserted on X that a Madhya Pradesh union of contractors had complained in a letter to the Chief Justice of the High Court that their payments were only issued after paying a 50% commission.

“The corrupt BJP government in Karnataka used to collect 40% commission. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has gone ahead by breaking its own record of corruption. People of Karnataka ousted the 40% commission government, now the people of Madhya Pradesh will remove the 50% commission government from power,” she alleged in the post.
