Allegations and counter-allegations have been intensifying between the INDIA-NDA alliance parties regarding Katchatheevu island located in the sea between India and Sri Lanka. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had slammed Congress by posting on social media platform X regarding Katchatheevu island. After which a verbal altercation started between BJP and Congress. Now MDMK founder Vaiko’s statement has come on this issue.
Vaiko, founder of Tamil Nadu political party MDMK, launched a scathing attack on Congress on the issue of Katchatheevu island. Vaiko said today, “At that time Congress betrayed Tamil Nadu on every front.” He was referring to Indira’s decision when the Katchatheevu Island deal was made between the then Congress government and the Sri Lankan President.
Vaiko, whose full name is Vaiyapuri Gopalsamy, is a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, from Tamil Nadu. He is the founder and general secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a political party active primarily in Tamil Nadu.
Before Vaiko, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that Congress had handed over Katchatheevu island near Rameshwaram, India, to Sri Lanka. Taking a dig at Congress, PM Modi said that every Indian is angry with the actions of Congress and the common people have now decided that Congress cannot be trusted. PM Modi said this on social media citing an RTI report on Katchatheevu.
