Union Home Minister Amit Shah voiced a strong objection to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha’s comments on Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament on Monday, stating that Kashmir belongs to all Indians and that India is of the Kashmiris.
Amit Shah’s remarks came after Manoj Jha said, “There is no one in this House today who is for Kashmir.”
Shah reacted negatively to the opposition leader’s comments, asking, “Why is he speaking for us when he can speak for himself? We support Kashmir at all times. From Dwarka to the northeast, and from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the region is open to all. The nation is also made up of all Kashmiris.”
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 were introduced by Amit Shah in the Rajya Sabha for discussion and approval. The Lok Sabha approved the bills last week.
Notably, the Supreme Court on Monday affirmed the government’s choice to repeal Article 370, which gave the former state of Jammu and Kashmir a special status.
The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the government’s decision to revoke Article 370 of the Constitution was praised as “historic” by Amit Shah.
This, according to him, validates the action as “completely constitutional”.
