Cyclone Biparjoy's Landfall In Gujarat Did Not Result In Any Losses
Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat without claiming any lives, but it did cause 23 injuries and cut out electricity to roughly 1,000 villages in the state, according to NDRF Director General Atul Karwal on Friday.
A path of devastation was left in its wake when the Arabian Sea cyclone tore through Gujarat’s Kutch and portions of Saurashtra. According to officials, since the storm began making landfall at Jakhau Port on Thursday at 6.30 pm and the process lasted until 2.30 am, heavy rains have pounded the whole Kutch area.
While two terrible lives were lost prior to impact, according to Karwal, not a single person perished in Gujarat after the hit.
He continued by saying that this was due to the efforts of the Gujarat administration and other organisations that worked to ensure the least amount of loss of life and property.
According to the National Disaster Response Force’s Director General (DG), the cyclonic effect caused at least 23 injuries.
He said that the state’s electricity was being disrupted in around 1,000 areas.
The DG also stated that the Kutch district, which took the brunt of the cyclone, experienced around 40% of all interruptions.
About 500 ‘kutcha’ or thatched houses have been damaged and 800 trees uprooted or hit, and our teams and those from the state disaster response force are working to normalise the situation and help those affected, Karwal said.
Except Rajkot, no place in Gujarat is experiencing heavy rains, he said.
The cyclone is currently moving towards south Rajasthan, according to the DG, and the NDRF has already sent a team there after consulting with the state administration because heavy rains could cause flooding and confine people.
To conduct rescue and relief activities, a total of 18 NDRF teams have been sent in Gujarat. These teams are outfitted with inflatable boats, pole cutters, and tree saws.
According to Karwal, there are five teams in Mumbai and four in Karnataka ready to respond to any emergency that arises as a result of the storm on Friday.
