It has been reported that the high-level committee on “One Nation, One Election,” led by former president Ram Nath Kovind, will convene on Monday to assess the status of the initiative and discuss the reactions of political parties to the concept of conducting simultaneous elections.
Although there isn’t a formal agenda for the “informal” gathering, according to sources, responses from different political parties may be discussed at the meeting.
During its first meeting, the committee decided to seek opinions from political parties.
Additionally, the panel had written to the parties recently to request an exchange of ideas and a “mutually agreed date” for interaction. Later, it reminded the parties, eliciting a reply from them.
Six national parties, thirty-three state parties, and seven registered unrecognized parties received letters asking for their views and suggestions on “One Nation, One Election.”
The Law Commission’s opinions regarding simultaneous polling have also been heard by the committee. On the matter, the law panel might be convened once more.
