The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has dismissed a media report by The Wire as misleading, stating that the claim about the Indian Air Force (IAF) losing fighter jets due to political leadership’s constraints has taken out of context.

Remarks taken out of context, says PIB
The clarification followed media reports concerning a presentation by an Indian Defence Attaché at a seminar.
PIB stated that the media misrepresented both the intention and the content of the presentation.
According to the official clarification, the Defence Attaché’s remarks aimed at highlighting that the Indian Armed Forces operate under the authority of civilian political leadership, unlike in some neighbouring countries.
Objectives of Operation Sindoor reiterated
The PIB further noted that the presentation focused on the strategic objective of Operation Sindoor, which was to target terrorist infrastructure while maintaining a non-escalatory posture.
The statement emphasised that the Indian Armed Forces acted within the framework of national policy and under political direction, and that the presentation in no way implied political weakness or constraints on military effectiveness.
The government urged media outlets to verify sensitive claims and avoid taking officials’ statements out of context, especially on national security issues.
