ED took into custody IAS officer Ranu Sahu in Chhattisgarh
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took into custody IAS officer Ranu Sahu in Chhattisgarh, following raids at her premises the previous day in connection with a money laundering case on Saturday. According to ED’s lawyer Saurabh Pandey, Sahu was arrested in relation to an alleged coal levy case and was presented before the court for a hearing on Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) cases to seek her custody.
Notably, she is the second IAS officer in the state to be arrested in connection with this case. Ranu Sahu is a member of the Chhattisgarh-cadre IAS of the 2010 batch and is currently serving as the director of the state agriculture department. Prior to this assignment, she had held the position of collector in the coal-rich Korba and Raigarh districts.
The ED had previously conducted raids at her residence in Raipur, and her assets were also attached by the agency as part of its investigation into the alleged coal levy case. This development follows the arrest of another IAS officer, Sameer Vishnoi, from the 2009 batch, who was apprehended last year in the same case.
The ED’s ongoing probe is centred around an alleged coal levy and liquor scam in the state, resulting in the arrest of several high-ranking bureaucrats, politicians, and individuals associated with them.
