Following Cyclone Remal, Assam saw intense rainfall and wind that resulted in one death and 17 people were injured, according to officials on Tuesday.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority officials confirmed that only one person died.
After Cyclone Remal made landfall in Bangladesh and West Bengal, several districts in Assam were placed on high alert due to the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rains.
The Haflong-Silchar connection road was closed because high river levels in Dima Hasao district caused a significant amount of the road to be washed away after intense rains.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority authorities claim that the storm has had a major impact on 11 districts, including Kamrup, Nagaon, Sonitpur, and Morigaon.
Rainfall caused one fatality and four injuries in Morigaon alone. In the Sonitpur district’s Dhekiajuli area, a falling tree branch struck a school bus carrying twelve pupils from Usha English School resulting in injuries.
Every student who was hurt was quickly saved, brought to the hospital, and is currently receiving medical attention.
There have been a lot of reports about fallen trees from districts like Kamrup and Nagaon, especially in Palashbari, Chaygaon, and Boko Revenue Circle.
The district administration reports that numerous rivers now have higher water levels as a result of the constant rains, and there have also been multiple recorded landslide events.
With a speed of around 15 kmph, the cyclone “Remal” has passed over coastal Bangladesh and the neighboring coastal West Bengal, heading nearly northward. The violent cyclonic storm has severely damaged numerous parts of city, according to Kolkata Police.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said on Monday that the powerful cyclonic storm “Remal” has weakened since making landfall last night and is predicted to fade into a deep depression by the evening.
