PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Firm Security Stance At Guru Tegh Bahadur Commemoration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday underscored that while India remains committed to peace, it will never permit any compromise on its borders or national security.

He made the remarks at a state-level ceremony in Kurukshetra marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

PM Modi praised the government’s recent defence actions, including Operation Sindoor, which he said was carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. He emphasised that “the world has seen that today’s India neither fears terrorism, nor pauses in its response, nor bends before threats”.

Reflecting on recent developments, the Prime Minister said the arrival of three original forms of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan was a moment of pride for the entire country. He reiterated that the government has worked extensively to preserve and strengthen India’s spiritual and cultural links with Sikh history.

PM Modi recalled how Guru Tegh Bahadur, during his travels from Anandpur Sahib, connected numerous villages with the Sangat, encouraging devotion, moral conduct and a rejection of social vices. Many communities, he noted, abandoned intoxicant cultivation and embraced a path of discipline and service.

Call for Collective Action Against Addiction

Drawing inspiration from the Guru’s teachings, the Prime Minister stressed that a united societal effort, especially involving families and the youth, could defeat addiction at its roots. He said Guru Tegh Bahadur’s ideals must guide social balance, policy decisions and the maintenance of trust within society.

PM Modi highlighted that the widespread observance of the martyrdom anniversary across India demonstrates how deeply embedded the Gurus’ teachings remain in public consciousness. He noted that this enduring reverence reflects the moral strength drawn from Sikh tradition.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister said the spirit of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice should inspire young people to contribute to India’s progress with renewed dedication. He extended his greetings to the Sikh community and urged citizens to continue drawing from the Guru’s message of courage, compassion and unwavering commitment to truth.
