Every day, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) adjust the retail price of fuel in accordance with the price of crude oil around the world. The government regulates fuel costs via excise tax, base pricing, and price caps.

Factors affecting diesel and petrol prices

Since crude oil is the primary raw material required to make petrol and diesel, the price of crude oil directly affects how much these fuels ultimately cost.

The price of petrol and diesel is influenced by the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the US dollar because India imports the majority of its crude oil.

Tax: Both the federal and state governments impose various levies on petrol and diesel. These levies may differ from state to state and may have a sizable effect on the final cost of fuel and diesel.
