Petrol-diesel prices

Regardless of whether the petrol and diesel prices have changed or not, their prices are announced every day at 6 am. However, these costs differ between states due to factors like value-added tax (VAT), shipping costs, and local taxes.

In Delhi, the cost of petrol and diesel is Rs 96.72 per liter and Rs 89.62 per liter respectively as of September 10.

On September 10, the cost of a liter of petrol in Mumbai remained over the Rs 100 threshold at Rs 106.31, while the cost of a liter of diesel was Rs 94.27.

The fuel prices have not changed since May 2022, the state government and central government have cut the fuel prices. Every day, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) adjust the retail price of fuel in accordance with the price of crude oil around the world. The government regulates fuel costs via excise tax, base pricing, and price caps.

Factors affecting diesel and petrol prices

Since crude oil is the primary raw material required to make petrol and diesel, the price of crude oil directly affects how much these fuels ultimately cost.

The price of petrol and diesel is influenced by the exchange rate between the Indian rupee and the US dollar because India imports the majority of its crude oil.

Tax: Both the federal and state governments impose various levies on petrol and diesel. These levies may differ from state to state and may have a sizable effect on the final cost of fuel and diesel.
