24 mothers die every day in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan due to maternal causes which could be easily prevented, a clear warning has been issued by WHO regarding the situation, The Khaama Press reported on Tuesday.
As per the report, lack of necessary health assistance is the main reason behind the increased mortality rate. WHO shared a post on X(formerly known as Twitter) that said,” Estimated 24 mothers die each day of preventable maternal mortality causes under the current funding. This number is projected to rise dramatically if the current funding shortage continues.”
Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that the situation of pregnant women in Afghanistan is concerning due to factors like economic challenges, poor nutrition, limited healthcare access, and heightened pressures.
According to WHO report, Afghanistan has Asia’s highest maternal mortality rate. Many of these deaths, stemming from preventable causes, underscore the significance of women’s access to healthcare centres. This access gap has contributed to Afghanistan’s alarming maternal mortality rate.
The situation of women in Afghanistan has drastically worsened due to the shortage of funds making it very crucial to address the problem sooner.
People in Afghanistan are facing food scarcity, malnutrition, outbreaks and extreme situation of drought and sudden illness due to infection.
As per report from The Khaama Press, following Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan in 2021 the need for humanitarian assistance has increased from 18.4 million to 28.8 million in 2023. Only 8.4 million are able to get health assistance reflecting the health support needed by the people.
