A monitor claimed Friday that at least 23 Syrian soldiers were killed in the conflict-torn country’s east in an attack on an army bus allegedly on Islamic State group jihadists.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, IS members targeted a military bus in Deir Ezzor province on Thursday, as the jihadist group’s remnants escalate their attacks.
As to the Britain-based organization, the attack killed 23 soldiers and injured more than ten others, some of whom are in critical condition.
The Observatory reported that dozens of (other) soldiers were missing.
Despite losing its last piece of Syrian land in 2019, IS has maintained hideouts in the vast Syrian desert from which it has conducted ambushes and hit-and-run operations.
Its fighters have upped their attacks in Syria’s north and northeast in recent weeks.
The Observatory said Tuesday that ten Syrian soldiers and pro-government militants were killed earlier this week in an IS attack in the former jihadist bastion of Raqa province.
