A Russian general claimed he was fired as a commander after informing military commanders about the grave situation at the front in Ukraine, where he claimed Russian soldiers had been stabbed in the back by senior military brass failings.

Major General Ivan Popov, commander of the 58th Combined Arms Army, announced his dismissal in a voice message obtained by a Russian politician.

The defence ministry did not respond immediately, and the media was unable to confirm the validity of the audio message.
