During a ceremony, late rapper Tupac Shakur received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star, which his sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur accepted on his behalf.

The honour is given nearly 30 years after the hip-hop legend passed away. Shakur was also an activist, actor, and poet. He was only 25 years old when he was assassinated in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in September 1996.

According to the website Entertainment Weekly, radio personality Big Boy presided over the event on Wednesday.

Sekyiwa stated in her speech that the ceremony honoured her brother’s wish to have a star on the historic site. The 2,758th star, which is at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, was given to Shakur.

“He knew he had the dream to have a star here on the Walk of Fame from the moment he stepped foot on the stage of the Apollo Theater at the age of 13, before anyone knew his name.

“Today, we’re not just honouring a star in the ground, but we’re honouring the work and the passion that he’s put into making his dreams come true. His heavenly star will shine a little brighter today. And once again, he has made us all extremely proud,” Sekyiwa said.

The producers and director of the Hulu documentary series “Dear Mama: The Story of Afeni and Tupac Shakur,” Jamal Joseph and Allen Hughes, rapper YG, and members of Shakur’s Outlawz organisation also gave statements during the event.

Shakur was honoured by Snoop Dogg by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. He is best known for his hits “California Love,” “All Eyez On Me,” and “Dear Mama.”
