Yashasvi Jaiswal struck his second consecutive century as India A dominated the opening day of the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln on Saturday.
The left-handed opener scored 102 off 127 deliveries, while Sai Sudharsan remained unbeaten on 77. India A reached 227/2 before persistent rain ended the day’s proceedings prematurely.
New Zealand A won the toss and elected to bowl, but Jaiswal and Sudharsan responded with a commanding 175-run opening partnership.
Jaiswal continued his impressive form after scoring an unbeaten 155 in the previous unofficial Test in Christchurch. Both batters initially adopted a cautious approach before gradually increasing their scoring rate.
Jaiswal brought up his half-century despite surviving a missed catch when Matthew Boyle failed to hold an opportunity at slip. The opener capitalised on the reprieve, hitting consecutive boundaries and a six.
Sudharsan complemented his partner with disciplined batting, reaching his half-century after facing 129 deliveries.
Jaiswal completed his century from 127 balls with consecutive boundaries. However, he departed shortly afterwards after chipping a delivery towards mid-off.
Devdutt Padikkal subsequently scored 15 before edging Jarrod McKay’s delivery behind. Captain Dhruv Jurel remained unbeaten on four alongside Sudharsan when rain stopped play.
Danru Ferns claimed one wicket for 16 runs, while McKay finished with figures of 1/45.
India A will resume their innings at 227/2, with Sudharsan well placed to convert his half-century into a hundred.
