Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, marking a significant change in its laptop lineup. However, the new OLED display has emerged as the device’s biggest attraction, while touchscreen controls offer additional convenience rather than transforming the overall user experience.
In a review published on November 5, Bloomberg’s Chris Welch highlighted the MacBook Pro’s improved screen quality, slimmer construction and lighter design. The laptop marks Apple’s departure from its traditional approach, which has relied primarily on keyboards and trackpads for navigation.
The new MacBook Pro supports taps, swipes and multi-finger gestures, although Welch continued to rely mainly on the trackpad. Apple has retained the familiar macOS interface with minor touch-friendly adjustments.
Its tandem OLED display offers deeper blacks, richer colours and stronger contrast than previous Mini-LED panels. With up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate, the screen also caters to creative professionals.
Apple has also made the laptop thinner and lighter to improve portability. The redesigned models replace the traditional display notch with Dynamic Island, bringing an iPhone-inspired feature to the Mac.
The MacBook Pro comes in 14-inch and 16-inch variants, with prices starting at $2,899 and $3,399, respectively, in the US. Both models feature Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
The redesigned six-speaker system promises deeper bass, further improving the multimedia experience.
Overall, Apple’s latest MacBook Pro combines touchscreen functionality, improved portability and advanced display technology. While touch controls add flexibility, the OLED screen remains its biggest selling point.
