PM Addressing G7 Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Nikkei Asia that India wants normal bilateral ties with Pakistan and neighbourly relations with Pakistan, but that it is up to Islamabad to establish a conducive atmosphere free of terrorism and to take the required steps. PM Modi went on to say, “The onus is on Pakistan to take the necessary steps in this regard.”
Prior to the G7 Summit in Japan and in the midst of a number of pressing global challenges, PM Modi spoke with Nikkei Asia.
G7 participation since 2013
India was invited as a guest country in Japan and has been participating in G7 since 2013. PM Modi emphasized as India’s economy is among the fastest-growing in the world and that it has advanced from being the tenth biggest in 2014 to the fifth largest now.
India’s Concern over Pakistan
In his interview, PM Modi said that “It is incumbent upon them (Pakistan) to create a conducive environment free from terrorism and hostilities”.
India has frequently stated that terrorism and peace negotiations cannot coexist and has expressed its worry about Pakistan’s sponsorship of various terrorist organizations on several occasions.

When asked if India might serve as a mediator in the Russia-Ukraine crisis, PM Modi replied that his nation’s stance on the issue was “clear and unwavering.” He continued by saying that rather than war, “cooperation and collaboration should define our times.”
“Peace and tranquillity in the border areas are essential for normal bilateral ties with China. The future development of the India-China relationship can only be based on mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interests,” Modi added painting a wider region of opportunities.
G7 Summit Highlight India
PM Modi arrived in Hiroshima on May 19 for the G7 Summit. At the G7 conference, he committed to “amplify the voices and concerns of the Global South” countries.
He continued by saying that the meeting will “resonate strongly” with India’s experience and that he would “emphasize India’s role as a trustworthy partner in addressing these challenges.”
