At least 50 people were killed on Friday by flash floods caused by seasonal rains in the northern Afghan province of Baghlan, according to Taliban official.
Per Edayatullah Hamdard, the provincial director of Natural Disaster Management in Baghlan, the floods also resulted in property damage in a number of districts. The death toll, according – him, is preliminary and “might rise as many people are missing.”
According to Abdullah Janan Saiq, the Taliban’s spokesperson for the State Ministry for Natural Disaster Management, the flash floods also affected Kabul, the nation’s capital. He claimed that relief teams have been sent to the impacted areas with food and other supplies.
Authorities are currently concentrating their efforts on the rescue effort, according to Saiq, who added that he might be able to provide more accurate numbers on casualties and damage later.
At least 70 individuals lost their lives throughout the nation as a result of flash flooding and strong rains in April. Last month, around 2,000 houses, three mosques, and four schools sustained damage. There are thousands of people in need of humanitarian aid. According to Saiq, 2,500 animals died in flood and the it also harmed agricultural land.
