An old South Indian woman can be seen in the video revealing a traditional, non-chemical way of ripening bananas. The video is gaining attention on social media.
Although ripe bananas are widely accessible and available in markets, they are mostly riped through artificial ripening agents. This video presents a different strategy and raises concerns about its applicability and commercial viability.
The video was shared with a caption that read, “Banana Ripening Process, Primitive Method.”
Using this method, raw bananas are buried in a pit that has been lined with dry banana leaves. After that, coals are added to the pit to produce smoke. The pit is then filled with dirt and left for a period of two days.
The bananas appear in the video to be perfectly ripe and ready to eat. In the footage, the woman even appears to be eating the ripe bananas.
Even while the process seems to work, there are concerns about its practicality and scalability for widespread commercial application. However, it draws attention to a custom that some people could find intriguing and even helpful.
The act of ripping bananas or any other fruit has come under fire after watching the video. Many individuals expressed their opinions in comment section.
A user said, “I wonder why they don’t just let them ripen on the tree. Is it just to speed up the process? I love how, at her age, she is so active.”
Another user said, “This is a very efficient method for ripening fruits. The smoke is used for ethylene as it ripens the fruit.”
