If an income tax return (ITR) is not checked within 120 days of the filing date, it will be regarded as invalid. Holders of Aadhaar cards can use their Aadhaar number to electronically authenticate their income tax returns (ITRs). Your cellphone number must be updated with the PAN-linked Aadhaar in order to use this service.

What is EVC Code?

A 10-digit alphanumeric code known as an Electronic Verification Code (EVC) is provided to the taxpayer’s registered cellphone number when the taxpayer files his or her taxes online. It aids in confirming the taxpayers’ identities. Both individuals and Hindu Undivided Families submit taxes under this category (HUF). While Karta must validate the HUF’s records, the individuals are obligated to self-check their own returns. With the Income Tax Department’s e-filing system, an EVC may be created.

You can e-Verify your returns online using:

  • OTP on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar
  • EVC generated through your pre-validated bank account
  • EVC generated through your pre-validated demat account
  • EVC through ATM (offline method)
  • Net Banking, or Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)

E- Verify Your Return Using Aadhaar Card

Step 1: Open the Department’s electronic filing webpage.
Step 2: Choose “Income Tax Returns” from the drop-down menu under “e-file” on the dashboard, and then click “e-verify return.”
Step 3: Choose the newest ITR for which e-verification is pending.
Step 4: On the next screen select the first option ‘I would like to e-verify using OTP on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar‘. For verification through Aadhaar OTP, your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar and also your PAN-Aadhaar must be linked
Step 5: Choose “Create Aadhaar OTP” and check the appropriate option. Keep in mind that the OTP has a 15-minute validity limit
Step 6: Finally, enter the OTP code and press “Submit.” Afterward, you will see the message “Return successfully e-Verified.” The Acknowledgment can be downloaded. Your registered email address will automatically get the same acknowledgment. Your income tax return has been successfully e-filed and e-verified
