Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod after she won gold in the women’s recurve individual event at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Mohod created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve title at the Asian Games. She defeated strong opponents, including world champion Kang Chae-young and Oh Yejin, during her title campaign.
Mohod secured the gold after a dramatic 6-5 shoot-off victory in the final. She sealed the deciding round with a perfect 10 to claim the Asian Games title.
Shah congratulated the young archer for her landmark performance and highlighted her contribution to India’s strong showing in archery.
Mohod’s victory adds to India’s medal haul in the discipline. The Indian women’s team won gold, while the mixed team secured silver at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Her individual triumph carries added significance as it secured an Olympic quota for India for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
The 17-year-old’s achievement marks another milestone for Indian women’s archery on the Asian Games stage. Her victory against established international competitors underlined the depth of India’s emerging talent in the sport.
