Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the deportation of alleged narco-trafficker Navpreet Singh from Türkiye to India as a ‘historic milestone’ for the Modi government.
Indian agencies tracked Singh in Türkiye and uncovered his alleged use of the fake identity Navab Virk. According to Shah, Singh used the identity while smuggling heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan to India.
The agencies established Singh’s real identity and coordinated his deportation to India. Authorities have since lodged him in jail in connection with alleged drug-trafficking and other criminal cases, Shah said.
Shah congratulated the agencies for tracing Singh and securing his return to India. He said their action demonstrated the government’s resolve to dismantle international narco-trafficking networks.
“Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation,” Shah said in a post on X.

The Home Minister said authorities brought Singh back to India and put him behind bars in connection with drug-trafficking and other cases.
The operation marks the third recent fugitive return through the Türkiye route. It underlines the growing focus on overseas drug networks and cross-border cooperation.
Shah reiterated the government’s stated commitment to dismantling every narco-cartel by December 2029.
The case highlights the role of coordinated action between Indian agencies and foreign authorities in pursuing alleged drug traffickers operating across international borders.
