Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash, a frontline guided-missile frigate, departed Kenya’s Mombasa after a successful port visit aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation and close ties between India and Kenya.
During its departure on Friday, INS Tarkash conducted a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with Kenya Navy Ship (KNS) Jasiri off Mombasa.
The exercise enhanced interoperability between the two navies and reaffirmed their shared commitment to maritime security.
During the port visit, Indian Navy and Kenya Navy personnel held professional exchanges covering Officer of the Day and Officer of the Watch duties, force protection, and electrical and engineering hygiene.
Kenya Navy medical officers also received a briefing on INS Tarkash’s onboard telemedicine facility, while the two sides held joint planning discussions for the PASSEX.
The visit also included community outreach activities. INS Tarkash welcomed around 100 visitors from Sahjanand Special Children School in Mtwapa, while the ship also opened its decks to members of the public, promoting people-to-people ties between India and Kenya.
INS Tarkash’s Commanding Officer, Captain Rohit Mishra, also called on Brigadier William Kiprotich, Commander of Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe.
The Kenya Navy hosted a dinner for the ship’s officers and sailors, further strengthening naval ties.
Earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Adarsh Swaika and Captain Mishra co-hosted a deck reception aboard INS Tarkash in Mombasa.
The event brought together senior Kenya Navy officials, diplomatic representatives and members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting the longstanding friendship and maritime cooperation between the two countries.
The port visit strengthened India-Kenya naval cooperation in the Western Indian Ocean and reflected India’s MAHASAGAR vision of enhancing maritime security and cooperation across the region.
