On Saturday, MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, announced cash assistance of Rs 6,000 to those impacted by Cyclone Michaung.
The government announced in an official release that cash assistance would be provided at the ration shops to those whose livelihoods were impacted by the cyclone. In addition, more assistance would be provided under other categories, such as compensation for crops damaged by flood.
The announcement by the Chief Minister came after a high-level meeting that he chaired at the Secretariat to discuss flood damage and the relief that would be given to the affected parties.
According to a press release from the government, MK Stalin ordered an increase in compensation from Rs 13,500 per hectare to Rs 17,000 for crops (including paddy) that were affected by rain (33% and above).
The compensation per hectare would increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 22,500 if trees and perennial crops were impacted.
The compensation for crops fed by rain would rise from Rs 7,410 per hectare to Rs 8,500. The assistance given to the relatives of those who perished in rain-related incidents as a result of the cyclone will now total Rs 5 lakh instead of Rs 4 lakh.
The aid for huts that have been damaged has increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000.
Cyclone Michaung, a powerful cyclonic storm, tore apart parts of Andhra Pradesh and Chennai earlier this week, wreaking havoc and causing extensive damage.
