On Tuesday, the Samajwadi Party formally announced their nominees for the 16 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, made the announcement a day after he said that the party has reserved 11 seats for Congress, an ally of the INDIA alliance.
Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav, will run from Mainpuri, while the candidates from Sambhal and Lucknow, respectively, are Shafiqur Rahman Barq and Ravidas Mehrotra.
With the breakdown of the INDIA bloc’s seat-sharing negotiations, the Samajwadi Party’s announcement on Tuesday came as a fresh surprise.
Eleven OBCs, one Muslim, one Dalit, one Thakur, one Tandon, and one Khatri candidate are on the Samajwadi Party’s first list. There are eleven OBC candidates: one Nishad, one Pal, two Shakya, three Yadavs, and four Kurmis.
With Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar switching sides and joining NDA, the opposition’s INDIA group is currently experiencing a rift. Mamata Banerjee, too, has declared that she will run alone in the next elections in West Bengal.
