On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his warm greetings to the National Security Guard (NSG), India’s elite counter-terrorism force, as it celebrated its 40th Raising Day.
The NSG, commonly known as the ‘Black Cats’, has played a vital role in safeguarding the nation against terrorism.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On the occasion of NSG Raising Day, India salutes all NSG personnel for their unwavering dedication, courage and determination in safeguarding our nation. Their commitment to protecting our nation against threats is admirable. They embody valour and professionalism.”
Apart from PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari also took to social media to commend the NSG on this significant occasion.
Praising the organization’s steadfast resolve, Amit Shah posted, “On NSG’s Raising Day, I extend my warm wishes to our @nsgblackcats personnel and their families.”
“Living up to the motto of ‘Sarvatra Sarvottam Suraksha’, the NSG has consistently fortified national security with remarkable expertise in rapid response, tactical surprise, stealth operations, and flawless accuracy,” Shah added.
He further asserted, “Salute to the bravehearts of the NSG who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.”
Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari also recognized the NSG’s vital contributions to national safety, stating, “On the 40th Raising Day of National Security Guard, we salute the valor, dedication, and unwavering spirit of our brave soldiers. Their relentless efforts ensure the safety and security of our nation. We honor their service and commitment in defending India from all threats. Jai Hind!”
Established in 1984 in response to the pressing need for a specialized counter-terrorism unit following Operation Blue Star, the NSG operates as a Central contingency force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The force is known for its zero-error operations and is deployed during exceptional circumstances when standard security forces require specialized assistance in high-risk situations.
Officially created on 16 October 1984, NSG aims to address the escalating threat of terrorism.
The need for a swift, highly-trained response team became evident after Operation Blue Star, leading to the passage of the bill to establish the NSG in Parliament in August 1986.
Meanwhile, the force officially came into existence on 22 September 1986.
Today, the NSG symbolizes India’s commitment to counter-terrorism, having participated in numerous high-profile operations. It is globally recognized for its exceptional skills in crisis management and anti-terrorism efforts.
The 40th Raising Day marks a significant milestone in the unit’s long-standing tradition of serving the nation with unparalleled dedication.
