National Security Guard (NSG)

Established in 1984 in response to the pressing need for a specialized counter-terrorism unit following Operation Blue Star, the NSG operates as a Central contingency force under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The force is known for its zero-error operations and is deployed during exceptional circumstances when standard security forces require specialized assistance in high-risk situations.

Officially created on 16 October 1984, NSG aims to address the escalating threat of terrorism.

The need for a swift, highly-trained response team became evident after Operation Blue Star, leading to the passage of the bill to establish the NSG in Parliament in August 1986.

Meanwhile, the force officially came into existence on 22 September 1986.

Today, the NSG symbolizes India’s commitment to counter-terrorism, having participated in numerous high-profile operations. It is globally recognized for its exceptional skills in crisis management and anti-terrorism efforts.

The 40th Raising Day marks a significant milestone in the unit’s long-standing tradition of serving the nation with unparalleled dedication.
