PM Modi’s Khadi Push Takes The Ramp: ‘Navyug Khadi’ Fashion Show Redefines Indian Style At Pragati Maidan

The ‘Navyug Khadi Fashion Show’ lit up Pragati Maidan, showcasing khadi as a symbol of patriotism and a bold modern lifestyle choice. Organisers positioned the event as a turning point in India’s ongoing khadi revival.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) organised the show in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

The Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) and the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) also partnered in hosting the event.

Designers from across the country presented khadi in new forms, from structured jackets and contemporary silhouettes to elegant sarees and refined home textiles.

KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar credited the renewed popularity of khadi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push. He said PM Modi’s call, ‘Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Transformation’, gave the fabric a new identity.

He further added that PM Modi’s support revived demand, empowered artisans, and placed khadi at the centre of India’s sustainable fashion movement.

Khadi Shines in Modern Revival

The runway brought that vision alive. Models walked in sharply tailored garments, fluid drapes, and accessories designed with a global aesthetic.

Each collection highlighted khadi’s adaptability while honouring its handcrafted origins.

KVIC noted strong growth in the khadi sector over the past 11 years. Officials said Khadi and village industries crossed major sales milestones under the current government.

Nearly two crore people now earn a livelihood through the khadi ecosystem, and the sector’s value has risen to over ₹1.70 lakh crore.

Designers showcased regional weaves such as Assam’s eri, Odisha’s ikkat, Bengal cotton, Karnataka silks, Gujarat tangalia and more.

The show emphasised khadi’s sustainable nature and its appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

Organisers also unveiled ‘Khadi Knowledge Portal (Volume-II).’ The portal aims to educate visitors on khadi’s history, techniques, and evolving design language.

Interactive workshops on natural dyeing, hand-spinning and saree draping added depth to the event.

Attendees said the show blended tradition and modernity with ease. For many, it revived pride in India’s craft heritage while proving that khadi now fits global fashion trends.

Under PM Modi’s guidance, khadi continues to evolve, from village looms to high-fashion runways, carrying both heritage and a strong sense of contemporary Indian identity.
