PM Narendra Modi on his state visit to US on Tuesday said that the relationship between New Delhi and Washington is stronger and deeper than ever, the leaders of the two nations, have a “unprecedented” level of trust in one another.
“India deserves a much higher, deeper and wider profile and a role,” Modi said in in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, ahead of his first state visit to the US.
“We have a core belief in respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, observing the rule of law and peaceful resolution of differences and disputes. At the same time, India is fully prepared and committed to protect its sovereignty and dignity,” Modi told the US newspaper.
I am the first prime minister to be born in free India, “And that’s why my thought process, my conduct, what I say and do, is inspired and influenced by my country’s attributes and traditions. I derive my strength from it. I present my country to the world as my country is, and myself, as I am,” Modi said in the interview.

PM Modi when asked about India’s role in UN, he said that India deserves a much higher, and larger position. No nation is being replaced by India, in our opinion. We see this as India reclaiming its proper place in the world.
PM Modi on Ukraine-Russia Conflict
In the exclusive interview, when asked on Ukraine-Russia Conflict Modi responded that, some claim that we are neutral. We’re not neutral. We are on the peace side. The world has complete faith India’s first priority is peace. India will make every sincere efforts to resolve the conflict and promote long-term peace and stability.
PM Modi on India-China relations
Sharing his views on India-China relations he further added that, peace along the border is crucial for maintaining normal bilateral relations with China. We firmly believe sovereignty and respecting national and territorial integrity, and finding peaceful solutions to conflicts. India is equally well prepared and dedicated to protect its sovereignty. All nations should respect international law and national sovereignty. Conflicts should be settled by “diplomacy and dialogue,” not by going to war.
