PM Modi Highlights Increased Participation of Women MPs In Parliament

Recently, the Modi government at the Center passed women reservation bill, which is considered as a step important towards women empowerment.

PM Narendra Modi and his party BJP is targeting woman that is half the population of the country for the upcoming elections. For instance, the biggest step taken in this direction is the passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill by the government in the special session of Parliament called in September. PM Modi quoted an important point from an article by journalist Shamika Ravi, he tweeted how in the era of Modi government, the voice of women MPs is most resonant in the Parliament. PM Modi is symbolically proving this as an achievement of his government.

Taking to X(formerly called Twitter) Narendra Modi said, An interesting article by @ShamikaRavi which highlights how women MPs are making our democracy more vibrant and are also focusing on vital sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure and more.”

He further added, “This is a very encouraging trend which also exemplifies how the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam will further strengthen people’s voice.”

As per Indian Express,”During the 15th Lok Sabha, there were 64 women MPs, with 14 belonging to the BJP (approximately 12 per cent of BJP MPs) and 25 from the Indian National Congress (approximately 12 per cent of INC MPs). In the 16th Lok Sabha, there were 68 women MPs, with 32 from the BJP (around 11 per cent of BJP MPs) and only four from the INC (8 per cent of INC MPs).”

The findings reveal women MPs asked significantly fewer questions during the 15th Lok Sabha than did men (135 versus 250). In striking contrast, their level of participation in the 16th Lok Sabha was equal to that of male MPs (218 versus 219).
