Amid widespread rumors that the right-wing party would be joining the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) prior to the Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Raj Thackeray met with Amit Shah, the home minister and powerful member of the BJP, on Tuesday.
The MNS leader met with Amit Shah in Delhi, where he was accompanied by his son Amit Thackeray. The meeting of two leaders occurs one day after sources told that, with only a few weeks till the crucial parliamentary elections, the MNS is expected to team up with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra.
Sources claim that Raj Thackeray arrived in Delhi on Monday night, coinciding with the arrival of state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis of Maharashtra.
According to sources, Thackeray is expected to demand two seats for his party, MNS: South Mumbai and Shirdi.
Raj Thackeray is the cousin of Uddhav Thackeray, the opposition leader of Maharashtra and the former chief minister. Raj Thackeray is the nephew of Shiv Sena founder and father of Uddhav, Bal Thackeray.
The other Shiv Sena group is led by Uddhav Thackeray. However, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s group was declared to be the “real Shiv Sena” in January by Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.
Following an uprising in 2022 spearheaded by Eknath Shinde, who went on to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena was divided into two groups.
Presently, the Shinde-led Sena, the NCP, and the BJP form the ruling alliance in Maharashtra.
